چکیده

matory lesions in the lower gastrointestinal tract including polyps, masses and ulcers that are characterized by elongated and distorted glands surrounded by proliferation of smooth muscle fibers from the muscularis mucosae. The term “prolapsing mucosal polyp” was first described by Franzin et al in 1985 as a new entity of benign colorectal polyp. They reported that these benign colonic lesions are characterized by the appearance of inflammatory polyps with mucosal prolapse. The common histological features include inflammatory granulation tissue in the lamina propria, proliferation of smooth muscle, and hyperplastic gland. Different terminologies such as inflammatory cloacogenic polyps, inflammatory cap polyps, and inflammatory myoglandular polyps, describing similar histological features of prolapsing mucosal polyps, have been reported in the literature. We have identified polyps with histological features as prolapsing mucosal polyps in patients without clinical evidence of rectal mucosal prolapse. In the present study, we examined and analyzed a series of seven cases with such lesions in hope of clarifying the clinicopathological features of this rare entity. Benign intestinal glandular lesions in the vagina: a possible correlation with implantation

BACKGROUND Enteric-type glandular lesions are extremely rare in the vagina. Their histological origin remains a matter of speculation at present. METHOD We review two rectal mucosal prolapse-like polyps and one intestinal-type adenosis in the vagina. RESULTS Case 1, a 64-year-old woman, presented with a vaginal polypoid lesion with a size of 4 × 3 × 3 cm. Case 2, an 8-year-old girl, had a 1...

Transanal Resection of Rectal Lipoma Mimicking Rectal Prolapse: Description of a Case and Review of the Literature

Submucosal lipomas of the large bowel are uncommon. Occasionally, they occur in the rectum and may cause aspecific symptoms; presentation with rectal prolapse is very unusual and may lead to a misdiagnosis of simple mucosal prolapse. The paper describes an additional case of a prolapsing rectal mass that led to diagnosis and surgical treatment of a rectal lipoma under local anesthesia.

Mucosal Prolapse Polyp Mimicking Rectal Malignancy: A Case Report

Mucosal prolapse polyps (MPPs) are rare inflammatory lesions that are part of the mucosal prolapse syndrome. We present the case of a 40-year-old male with history of constipation referred to our institution with suspected rectal malignancy due to hematochezia and a palpable rectal mass. Colonoscopy revealed a 25 mm wide lesion suggestive of subepithelial origin but with marked erythema and ero...

Cloacogenic Polyps: An Unrecognized Cause of Rectal Bleeding

Cloacogenic inflammatory polyps correspond to a rare subtype of prolapsing mucosal polyps that arise around the anal transitional zone. It usually presents with rectal bleeding, tenesmus and altered bowel habits, and can mimic neoplasia. It is an unrecognized cause of hematochezia which may be overlooked at colonoscopy unless an endoscopic retroflexion maneuver is performed. Endoscopists should...

Inflammatory Cloacogenic Polyp: A Rare Case Report

Inflammatory cloacogenic polyps (ICPs) are considered to be part of the spectrum of manifestations of mucosal prolapse, which includes solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS), rectal prolapse, intussusceptions and rectocele. The ICP is thought to result from mucosal prolapse, which produces local trauma and ischemic injury followed by inflammation, repair and regenerative changes. The estimated a...
